SASHA Q'S BIO:
Sasha Q (real name Oleksandra Stepanenko) is an artist born in Kyiv, Ukraine. She graduated from Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of decorative-applied Arts and Design. Sasha was forced to flee her home, and left behind her studio and body of work, due to the Russian invasion in February of 2022. She currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
Sasha's art is an extension of her consciousness, an endless source of exploration in its mysterious nature. Sasha believes that the ability to embody the product of one's consciousness in the form of art is the highest form of existence. Sasha explains that meaningful art conveys images that only one's soul can decipher. "If its core is unfakable" she says "then it has infinite power to change reality".
As a person, born in the Soviet Union, she talks about her experience witnessing two historical shifts; one in her own country and the other as our collective transformation into the digital world. In her art, she reflects on the metamorphoses in the world and her works are imbued with a light nostalgic vibe.
Sasha's art practice serves as psychoanalytic meditation where she reflects on fundamental aspects of life and explores transcendental boundaries - knowledge that goes beyond sensory experience and beyond the bounds of space and time.
