Heart Coherence & the LaSeRR Protocol
What is Heart Coherence?
Heart coherence is a physiologic state where the heart, mind, and emotions are in cooperative alignment. In this state, people commonly report clearer thinking, steadier emotions, and an easier sense of connection with others. Research over several decades suggests coherence can be trained and measured using heart-rhythm patterns.
Why it matters: Coherent states help us access a more balanced and optimized mode of being — supporting clearer thinking, steadier emotions, and greater resilience under stress. When our heart and mind are in sync, we’re better able to focus, learn, and perform effectively, while also feeling more calm and connected to others. In this way, coherence helps us process meaning, integrate insight, and respond to challenges with greater compassion and creativity — essential qualities for thriving both personally and collectively.
The LaSeRR Protocol
- Lock-On — place attention gently on the heart area; soften the breath (a little slower & deeper than usual).
- Synchronize — imagine the breath moving in and out of the heart; extend inhales/exhales evenly (e.g., ~5 seconds each).
- Radiate — evoke a renewing feeling (gratitude, care, compassion) and let it spread from the heart.
- Receive — pause and notice: what’s calmer, clearer, or possible now?
